Buying a new car three weeks after renewal

My current renewal date is 13 March and I am committed to buying a new car (build date 9 March so delivery will be 3/4 weeks after).
What is the best way to renew my car insurance and avoid large fees to transfer my insurance to my new car?
Is there anyway to make this easy and not cost a bomb in admin fees?

When shopping round do dummy quotes online with your new car do that you find an insurer who ' likes' it.
Then compare their admin fee for notifying changes with the near to best quotes you get and do the sums.0 -
Is getting insurance and cancelling an option?0

Try Direct Line they no longer charge any admin fees for changes, though of course there may be an increase in premium depending on the vehicle.0

Aviva didn't charge me an admin fee as long as I made the change online. They covered my old car right up to trade-in day.
When there was a day's delay with my new car (dealer underestimated how long it would take to fit a towbar), I phoned them and they extended the insurance on the old car. Again, no charge.0
