    Just to clarify....

The 49 quid charge is my own stupid fault and I'm willing to pay it.

I could have chosen to cover myself, and not my car, but didn't. My own stupid fault again!

I've now changed my vehicle online but I imagine there's some sort of delay which will mean I'll be lumbered with the charge.

I may, however, have shot myself in the foot by phoning today to check the situation as tomorrow morning (or whatever) will no longer be an 'emergency breakdown'.

I'll phone in the morning and try again. If I can get it towed back to the garage, that's half the job done. Even if the aa man can get the belts back on, that'd help.... although I doubt he'll be able to without taking large chunks of car off!

Looks like 3 working days from their online page.
    Thats a long time,most are 24-48 hrs.
How long has your AA memebership got left?
Rather than pay them £49 for 'nothing',you could get a full years Start resucue for £58 (full package)

Edit: use this code and its down to £49.30

Bit of an update.... my AA cover is vehicle based and, stupidly, I didn't update it when I changed car. Unnecessarily snotty woman on the phone just told me that if I change it while I report my breakdown, I will incur a £49 charge.
From memory the same happened to a friend, don't think she was charged but the cover could be changed to any vehicle.

If the belts are wet with oil I'd push for replacements.

The £49 charge by the AA makes my total Green Flag Recovery payment of £54pa seem like a great bargain!

I've got personal cover (covered in any vehicle we are travelling in) for both my wife and myself for £52 with the AA, had my money's worth when needing recovery from Norwich to Wirral a while back and also saved more than that using my membership card for discounts when eating out, quite often 20% off the whole bill.

I wouldn't be worrying about it too much, it's the garages problem to sort it out and you should be demanding that they put it right ASAP.

If the oil warning light came on when the engine was running i would be worried as most oil pressure switches are set at 7-10 psi,if the oil pressure was that low in the engine and it was running you will have problems, make sure that the garage make a note of the fault as if you have engine failure in a couple of weeks time they might not want to help/accept responsability.

OK this is me being clever after the event! :D

Where possible I always try to check what a garage have done at the first opportunity.
Not always possible of course, but I always have a look to make sure they've put the engine back!
I did my own repairs for years, but in the last few years I've found the brake fluid reservoir absolutely full after a fluid change, and an obvious bolt missing out of part of the air intake.
