But - if you do get a puncture - will you trust a 21 year old tyre not to be perished ?
    I certainly wouldn't !
Gawd, no - which is why I keep meaning to swap it over with one of the decent condition budget nasties that I took off when we bought the car... But because it's so unlikely to ever be needed, I keep forgetting.

Or you can buy a spare tyre/jack/brace and keep it in the car.

Presuming there is space - I am told that some modern cars now have either no spare wheel well, or one filled with various electronic bits. My own car is now 18 years old, and while it does have a space-saver spare wheel, it has a boot that isn't big enough to take the full-size wheel if I ever have to swap it. So if I have a passenger and a puncture, someone will have to have a wheel on their lap.

Should give a permanent repair for most repairable punctures. If in any doubt, use it for a temporary repair then get the tyre repaired "professionally" later.

they can be, but most tyre places won't want the hassle of cleaning it out, repairing etc it would likely be cheaper to just replace the tyre.

replace it with a compressor and plug set, less than about £20 tops for both.

if you're not happy driving on the plugs, just take the tyre to be repaired after.

some claim such plugs to be dangerous, although they were the standard repair for years, and most people that have used them have said they last for the life of the tyre, I know any i've used have been good until the tyre was replaced at the end of it's life.

it takes literally seconds to repair using a plug at the side of the road if you can get to where the puncture is without removing the tyre.

I used the tar string type similar to the link I posted on my previous car. The puncture happened 2 weeks after getting the car new; the repair was still on the tyre when the tyre was replaced some 40k+ miles later.

Any car I've had without a spare, comes with a compressor - I'd always be carrying one anyway. If I have a puncture, I'll be pumping the tyre up again. And repeat until I get to a tyre place. If it holds for even a mile at a time, I consider it worth it.
