    He is not correct.
    if you are concerned about your current car, don't be: as long as it was registered before 1st April 2017, the changes won't apply.
    See here for VED rates applicable to new cars registered on or after April 01st 2017.
    In the Autumn Budget, Chancellor Philip Hammond announced that all new diesel cars from 1 April 2018 will face going up a VED band if they fail to meet the latest Euro 6 standards under real-world testing.

    No he is not correct, a new petrol car may in fact cost more to tax than an older deisel deisel under the new rates.
  • Thank you. Our car was made in 2015, do you know any websites I could read about it on as when I typed it in google all I could really find was newspaper articles

    Yes plenty of misleading articles using phrases like "your next car" and "car owners face tax hike".

    Here's a more accurate article from Auto Express

    Very simply, there is no "new diesel tax". It does not exist.

    Is he thinking of local low-emission zones like the London ULEZ? Do you drive in central London often?

    Sell it now!!! i will give you £7.50 for it..

    Hurry the price will be £5 next week.

    Should be interesting when people come on and want to buy a new car to save money when the tax will be dearer than their old car.

    The link I posted gives the VED rates for new vehicles> almost every car registered after April 01st will cost more in VED than it's equivalent first registered in 2015.

    We can give you exact comparison, if you will give us a clue ;
    What your current car is?
    What would you intend replacing it with?

    Congestion charge may be a consideration;

  • Maybe he is thinking of that, but near us has had the low emissions zone for a few years now and it’s never affected us before, no we don’t normally go through the congestion charge zone.
    I think he has just read an article like thousands of people and just panicked.
    We wouldn’t be thinking of selling our car for a good few years anyway as it’s my fav car I have had, so wouldn’t want to replace it yet.
