Software for drawing simple architect plans?

I need to draw some scale plans for a changing room refurbishment at work. Rather than do this the old fashioned way (on graph paper) is there any free software out there that will help with this?
It will just need to be simple so I can see if cubicles/showers etc will fit in the area, so I need accurate scale drawings. I've done this sort of thing before with excel but it's far from ideal, must be something out there!
Thanks.

I've used Sweet Home 3D. Good for visualising rooms in 3D, you can move your viewpoint around and through your planned layout, as well as generate a floor plan. There's a furniture library and staircases can be generated.0
