BA lost luggage

My 18 year old daughter has been in New York on a school trip since Thursday. She flew from Edinburgh via Heathrow and for some reason her suitcase arrive. Almost three days with no clothes and having to go shopping with a teacher for some essentials. I have been on the phone to BA since Thursday evening being told all manner of rubbish to why her suitcase didn't make it onto the plane. Anyone else had an issue like this with BA? Trip of a life time ruined!

Not with BA but with Emirates.
Does your daughter have the tracking details for the suitcase, they usually stick it on the passport.
Are BA able to track the suitcase from these details.
Does your daughter have insurance?
Can she purchase the items she needs and claim back on the insurance.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

It's pointless to speculate on the exact reason for the delayed baggage, it can happen any time, especially when there's a transit point.
If the non-delivery was properly reported at the arrival airport or online later, and the report reference obtained, use that to keep track and follow up on the progress of the baggage being delivered to your daughter.
Meanwhile she should keep all receipts for necessary purchases caused by the delay, to be reimbursed by BA. In the unlikely event of the bag never being retrieved, a separate claim can then be initiated with the airline and/or insurance.
Hopefully it's not the 'trip if a lifetime' at only age eighteen...Evolution, not revolution0 -

Keep receipts. Bill to BA. Enjoy the unexpected shopping opportunity.
Don't buy expensive stuff, just basics, and they'll settle the bill. I reckon she'll be reunited with the luggage within two days.

Literally hundreds of luggage items fail to travel with the passenger across all airlines. It is really not that uncommon.Anyone else had an issue like this with BA?
No point you (or anyone else) constantly calling the airline.
It will generally turn up, intact, within two days of travel and it will be delivered straight to your daughter's hotel.
Remember that any additional expenses caused will be borne by the airline, so she must keep all receipts.

There are indeed a number of reasons why the bag was not on the same flight. Assuming they confirmed it was not loaded then she can rule out another passenger lifting it in error. If still not located I would assume that the airline tag may have been detached so the identification will be based on description....if a common type bag eg black wheeled case, there may be 100's missing all over the world at any point in time and 100's found without tags that the system will try to match based on routing dates etc. If she has not already she should provide extra contents information that may help the matching0 -
I'm experiencing a similar joy myself at the moment.
They have access to a lot more details if you call vs. what the online "tracking" says (e.g what flights it's booked on and when it should arrive).
4 days and counting for me and it isn't lost, simply delayed due to a baggage system failure at KUL...0 -
I!!!8217;ve had bags go missing a couple of times. Once at the start of my holiday which caused me to buy a few essentials (Fortunately I was in Vientiane which is very cheap) and once on my return. Both times the bag turned up within a few days.
The most annoying thing was that the airline in London would only deliver my bag to my home address and then it had to be between 9-5. Being as I was working I had to get them to hide it in my dustbin.
All in all it!!!8217;s a pain but not a disaster.0 -

She's in New York, so everything and anything she needs to buy is readily available.
BA should cover up to £500 without quibble, so get her to buy what she needs and claim it from them (make sure she keeps the receipts)0 -
It happened to me years ago. Unfortunately, being a relative giant in the place I was visiting did me no favours at all.0
