Seller's solicitors refusing to provide charges se

Hi,

I'm in the process of buying a property.
As a first time buyer, I have no idea if this can happen or if it's really strange...
The seller's solicitors are refusing to provide a Charges Search about the seller. It blows my mind why would they refuse to do this, unless it would cost them money to do so? My solicitor wants to charge me a fee to do the search, as she says this should be done...

So, I don't know now if the seller is hiding something or if it's something being brought up by my solicitor so she has an excuse to charge me for something else...

Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

If it costs your solicitor money, why would it be mind blowing for it to cost the other solicitors money? It costs money. The seller just doesn't want to pay for it.

If you want it you should be prepared to pay for it.

Will be purely be a disbursement incurred by the solicitor in performing the search. How much have they quoted?

About £40 (OP is buying in Scotland and we're talking about a search against a housing association, judging from earlier posts). Still not worth arguing about as it will be non negotiable normal practice of the seller.

    Ah! Sorry!

Like I said, I'm a first time buyer. So I don't know if the information my solicitor wants to see can be provided by the seller, or not, neither I know if it costs money, or not, to my solicitor to get it.

I'm also asking because it's something that came up kind of in the last minute, when they had sent me already how much their services were going to cost me in total. And this additional fee comes after another unexpected fee, twice as expensive as this one, for something they were not happy with. How convenient was that for them? So yeah, obviously, at this point, I don't trust much of what my solicitor says...

Thanks for your helpful comment. I guess you just pay whatever you're quoted for, no matter the service being provided and no matter the cost, just because it's something you want to...

£60. As per my first reply, it's more about the lack of trust in the solicitor than the amount itself...

That's right, it's in Scotland. Sorry I didn't provide information on that. And yeah, the seller is a company, not a person.

Thanks for the replies. I see it's common practice then.

The search is provided by a search firm. The cost is what they bill the solicitor. The solicitor doesn't make money out of it.

I'm not sure what other reasons you have not to trust your solicitor, but this isn't one of them - you'd get the same advice anywhere else.
