Single occupancy council tax discount

My partner moved out of my home on 13th January 2018 and I shortly afterwards confirmed this with my local Council and asked for the above discount. I'm aware that they needed to contact my partner to confirm her address, and they must have done this as the discount has now been granted, however from 3rd February 2018. I've sent a message to the Council asking why there is a discrepancy with the dates but doubt I'll get a response for a while.
Does anyone know of a reason as to why there could be a discrepancy, other than she's given them the wrong date?
Also, does anyone know if there is a clear rule about informing a Council, within a set time frame, if your single person discount should no longer apply?

The date change could either be a typo or she has given a different date - you will have to wait for the council to respond.
If you are no longer the sole adult in the property you tell the council asap so you don't
a) get caught out by the councils data matching software.
b) you pay the amended higher bill sooner than later.“You’re only here for a short visit.

Assuming you're in England then a penalty could be applied if you fail to tell the local authority that you are not entitled to a discount, or that you are entitled to a discount of a smaller amount, within 21 days of being notified (i.e. receiving the demand notice).
For speed it's worth telephoning the council and checking why they have used that date, they may have done so for a valid reason based on the information they hold but only they can confirm that. You should be fine though as you've contacted them within 21 days.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

Wales is very similar if not identical on the requirement (I don't think they've changed that part of the regs) but I believe the penalty amount is lower.
