Changing solicitors early

Hello all, basically to get the house we are buying sold etc on right move we had to get a solicitor. I have found a better one and would like to change. How hard/costly is it? We haven't paid them anything or signed anything or had searches done. The only thing they have is the mortgsge offer that was sent to them.

Thanks

  • It is perfectly easy to do, but you may have to pay your solicitors for any work they have done.
  • I've found the solicitors I'm currently using to be simply awkward and combined with numerous days of annual leave in the next month. I think it would be best to use a different one
  • I don't think they're yet to start any work, the only thing they've done is sent me a booklet to sign and return and have recieved the mortgage agreement

How awkward/inactive can they be when they havent even acted for you yet?
  • Well initially, they want to see my dad in person on a specific date because he's providing some of the deposit. This would be fine but he lives 300+ miles away and they refuse to even have a Skype call with him to make up for this. I'd call that pretty awkward

that is ridiculous. what would happen if your parent lived abroad?

ID and money laundering checks. Ask them if a local solicito to him can do this.

Are you sure your 2nd choice solicitor won't also want this?

However if you want to change, just write and tell them. Since you've not formally instructed them, and they've done no work, they can't bill you.

In an era of money laundering regulation then all sorts of issues could arise.
  • I think it will be fine with the new solicitor , we are using the one he sold his old house with so he's already familiar with my dad. Okay I'll get a letter wrote, do I have to notify my mortgage or will the new solicitor sort all of that out.
