amazon e-giftcard

Hi all, my first post, so apologies if I'm repeating any existing ones.. I was bought an amazon £20 e-giftcard which was sent to me via facebook messenger. When I clicked to use it, a message said it had already been redeemed. Not by me, it hadn't.. and there is nothing in my amazon orders using it. :-( Obviously it's been used fraudulently, but amazon aren't interested and are now ignoring my emails. According to a google search, this seems to happen quite often.. has anyone got their money back? If so, how, please? Thanks.

Who did the original purchaser buy it from? Was it Amazon direct? If so I would suggest that you ask the person who gave you the gift card to contact Amazon directly stating that it has been used fraudulently0

Sounds like the OP bought it from a third party who had already used it. In which case, it's nothing to do with Amazon. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

This does happen from time to time. Talk to Amazon customer services, personally I'd do it in chat. IF you do it in the morning (say around 8 am) chances are you'll get an Agent in Scotland.0

If it was bought via Facebook it will be a scam.0

Thats what Im concermed about for the OP. I first thought the gift was sent from a friend but now Im thinking ot may not be the case and the OP has paid x amount for what they thought was a genuine item.
OP how did you pay ? Was it a bank transfer ?0 -

The big difference is that in your linked thread the OP personally bought the gift vouchers directly from Amazon and used Facebook messenger to send the code to the recipient. The most likely scenario there was that either the OP or their recipient had had their messenger account hacked/compromised and somebody was redeeming the codes before the intended recipient. Amazon refunded all of the vouchers and gave a good will gesture. They also found the account using the "stolen" codes, or at least one of them anyway.
Here it looks like OP has purchased a gift card code through facebook, there is no way of knowing if the seller is scamming and redeeming codes before selling them, or whether one of the two accounts has had their security compromised, or whether it is something else altogether. As OP didn't purchase directly from Amazon they have no contract with them and no recourse through them. They only have a random stranger on the Internet who could even have a fake profile and not be who they say they are.0 -
Thanks all, Fosterdog, it was exactly as you describe in your first paragraph, my son bought me the giftcard from amazon and sent it via FB messenger.
His daughter is in hospital at the moment & I didn't want to bring him any more problems, so tried to sort it out on my own, but amazon have offered me nothing and in fact have stopped replying to my emails.
I did ask why they couldn't prosecute the possible hacker - they must have details of where the e giftcard went - but no reply. There is nothing in my list of purchases, as they will be able to see, so they must realise I haven't gained from it. I've used amazon for donkey's years and have had no problem before this, so they must realise I wouldn't spoil that history for the sake of twenty quid!
But it's MY twenty quid for my birthday, and I'd like it back! :-(0 -
I'm not that surprised that Amazon have stopped communicating with you, they've probably belatedly realised that you were not the purchaser and therefore have no right to ask for the money back. I think you will need to get your son to follow this up if you want it resolved, but you'll need to decide whether to bother him with it now over £20.0

The problem is, if there is a hacker it is more likely to be your Facebook messenger account that has been hacked which would not be amazons fault.
It's your son who needs to chase this up with amazon as he was the buyer, they are more likely to sort it out for him than you. Just make sure you both change your Facebook and messenger passwords for your own security.0
