Scottish power fixed March 2018

Hello
My Gas and Electricity Scottish Power fixed tariff is ending 31stMarch
Have started doing some checks for a better deal
The best I can see is with Scottish Power , its called "Super Saver April 2018 "
Have logged into my Scottish power account and they are offering a fixed called "Online fixed energy price April 2019 " the price is higher on this one ... they don't list the "Super Saver"
Can I switch to the "Super Saver " via MSE energy saving club if already using the supplier or will I need to call them to discuss the cheaper "Super Saver April 2018" deal
thanks Steve

The MSE CEC, like all energy comparison sites, clearly identifies if you can switch to the supplier & tariff through that website, or whether you would need to contact the supplier directly.

Of course, this information does depend on you accurately informing the comparison site of your existing supplier & tariff in the first instance.

Presumably the tariff you were offered by the PCW was called "Super Saver April 2019"
This tariff is not available direct from SP, but must be applied for via a PCW. It is available to both new and existing customers.

A relative's tariff was similar to this one and ended on March 31st so we're in the switching window for it. Scottish Power's "replacement" would have ended up costing a third as much again as they'd been paying previously. Moved them to another provider that as it happened was only about £6 pa more expensive than they were already paying.

Also check into splitting the utilities up - gas from company x and electricity from company y. You can do this on the Energy Club. A while back it was far far cheaper to do this than take dual fuel though as of late the gap has closed.

Sadly, Ofgem has made it even more difficult to compare the cheapest overall energy deals. For example, PCWs are now allowed to include shared referral fees in the total cost price of the tariffs on offer; conversely, PCWs will not show friends and family discounts available only to those who switch via the supplier's own website. Given that the latter can equate to £100, these deals should not be ignored.

Scottish Power are offering significantly better tariff terms through switching sites than they are offering through their own to existing customers and have been doing so for some months.
  • Many thanks for the replies
Just phoned Scottish Power and to to be fair was told it would be best to use a Comparison site to switch as they can't offer the best offers them selves directly
    Cheers Steve
  • So glad I found this thread, will save me ringing up Scottish Power to ask exactly the same question. Does seem strange though, that Scottish Power are quite happy to pay commission to a middle man when they could easily offer all the tariffs on their own site and avoid paying commission. Guess they more than make enough money from those that are not savvy enough to spend more time checking things out and just blindly go for the best deal offered on SP's website.

If all the pundits are to be believed the vast majority dont even go for the suppliers best deal, they just let themselves be rolled over onto the standard variable tariff beause it's totally effortless.

I could easily be paying around £500 a year more for my energy if I couldn't be bothered to to a bit of looking around.

Just for clarification please - a neighbour, who is with Scottish Power, would be about £150/year better off with their "Super Saver April 2019" tariff. To change to it they would have to go through the MSE link. And that would work? And there'd be no penalty?

EDIT: Ok, I re-read this post and see that we can move to the cheaper tariff but have to go through MSE...thanks.

  • Glad I also found this trend, have any of you switched yet, if so which offer did you go with.
