New Job - Late Payroll Loan

Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum, so if this is in the wrong please let me know where you think it should be.
Next week (Monday) I will be starting a new job, which I am really excited about for lots of personal and professional reasons. However I've become aware of a bug in the ointment..
The HR Director has said that my contract states/supports that as I have missed this month's payroll I need to wait till March payroll for the Feb dates I've worked at the new company to be paid into my bank account. I explained that I need the money for rent and motor insurance (I drive 15mi/day), but there was no leniency given.
I understand you guys are obviously not employment law experts, but do you have any ideas for what sort of things I can bring up with them on Monday, when I have my induction, to make my case absolutely clear: I can't afford to come in to work next month without the money.
Nb I've already considered asking friends and family for support and I'm uncomfortable asking for what the basic amount I would need.
Thanks in advance,

I work in HR - to be honest, I'd be really unimpressed at someone demanding a payroll loan on their first day, especially when much of Feb is still to be worked. Payroll deadlines are usually set for good reason as it's a massive job.
Now, if someone had made a good start in what's left of February and very politely asked if they could have an advance at the start of March, I'd be more tempted to consider it. They aren't obliged to pay you outside of the normal payroll requirements (and it's very normal for starters late in the month to wait until the following month) so please be careful about the attitude you take - ultimately, they don't have to carry on with your employment!Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

Have you moved from another job? If so then youll still be getting paid? Otherwise it would be fuel on a credit card, and make sure you have an interest free overdraft set up, then pay it all off in March.
Fyi, its standard practice what they are doing, not working before payroll cutoff means no money. Imagine you never turned up to work and they ahavevalready processed pay?0 -

Smacks of blackmail - don't do it. Right now you need them more than they need you, and it may raise questions about your organisational abilities if you can't plan ahead for a job change. Plus if they give you an advance and you vanish after day 2 (it happens) they'll be out of pocket.
Borrow it. Put it on a credit card. Whatever. But don't lay it out n the line on the first day. Work a couple of weeks at least before very politely asking about the possibility of Febs wages being paid as an additional payment. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I think they have you, because they will have told you in advance.
It is your choosing whether to start there or not. It may get what can we do to change your mind?
I know I worried about payment with a new company not getting my bank details until the 2nd week in of a new job - they still managed to pay my monthly salary in full less then two weeks later without any problems whatsoever. But it's kind of a big company. I did think it was magic.0 -
This is why the good lord invented credit cards, overdrafts and family.
Start spending less. It'll do you good.0 -

Whens the next pay day ?
A credit card ?
Any chance you could get a lift with a colleague, maybe not for monday but for later in the week you could.
Speak to your bank.
What figure are we talking about here ?0 -
Realistically it's only just over a week of February, so you will be potentially waiting five/six weeks instead of four/five.
As another poster mentioned, are you not still to be paid from your present employment for February? Even if that's only two weeks' money, that's what you live on and you cover rent, motor expenses and food with it. No frills. Nothing else.
Get an overdraft - talk to your bank. And you live like a pauper until the end of March (or whenever payday is). Can't socialise? Suck it up. Then you start paying into an emergency fund from your FIRST payday.LBM July 2006. Debt free 01 Sept 12 .. :T

There's nothing you can bring up. You can ask them if it is possible to have an advance but they don't have to grant one. Normally you are expected to use the week/fortnight or month's pay you have coming from your previous employer as they pay in arrears so leave at the end of January and in February you get paid from your previous employer for what you did in January and use that to cover until you get your first pay from your new employer in March. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
