What info do an estate agency actually need

just to view a property? Can I just tell them I'm not interested in giving all my details over. I'll give you my phone number and current address but that's it. Mainly because I don't want your spam.
I'm lead to believe they ask for details because of the old Suzy Lamplugh but I don't want to have to say how much I'm willing to spend yet etc etc. I just want to view that one property? Is that resonable?
I ask because Fox and Son are now religiously spamming me. I told them I only want to view ground floor flats with gardens up to about £200k. They keep sending me 2nd floor flats and flat worth £1mill. I've e-mailed them to tell them to stop but they keep e-mailing me.

I would be very disappointed if my estate agent showed people round my property who they hadn't properly qualified. I'd want full traceable contact details (disposable email and PAYG mobile not good enough). I'd want to know their financial position in detail before I'd consider any offer, so therefore it's not worth showing anyone round unless they are "good to go".
Why not just set up a Rightmove search with your criteria? I wouldn't bother having agents contact me directly unless it was by phone for a specific type of property they had just viewed but hadn't come to market yet.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
They want your details for security is the reply if you ask them. They are always ringing my phone its rather annoying. If you are looking for a house you look on rightmove and zoopla, you dont miss anything on the market, the random phone calls seeing if you are interested in X property are just spam.
If they ask your budget just say it depends on the property... since it does - Its product first price 2nd, they put cart before horse. As a buyer from your point of view you put the value on the product, up to seller if they accept - EAs really should not contact you if they cant accept this logic but i guess they looking for weak targets to over pay.0 -

Fox & Sons are the worst. Same here, they keep sending me 2 bed properties when I told them I'm only looking for 3, and for prices that are completely over my budget. It seems they just send spam regardless of what your criteria is. They've even started sending me leaflets and brochure spam via post now as well! No matter how many times I tell them to stop, it never does.
I've told them I have a mortgage broker in place and they don't like it one bit, every time I call up to book a viewing I get the whole spiel about coming in for a mortgage check before they can allow me to view somewhere. I've only viewed one property with them and that in itself was only after I gave them my broker's details. All other estate agents have been fine with name, address and phone number and what your position is i.e. first time buyer.0 -
What annoys me with Fox n Son is the first property looked at with them they never turned up. They got the time wrong. I said we're leaving. They said "The agent with be there in a couple of minutes". 5 mins past. I called again telling them we've looked outside and now aren't interested in it anyway. They said "He's just a few seconds away". No he's not, due to the location I'd be able to see if it thats the case. We walked away. Thats when told them about garden flat and price range to stop them spamming me. It originally started because where I work there is no phone signal so I said "DON'T call me, E-MAIL me." they ignored that and kept calling. One voice message from a one of the agents told me to call her ASAP (why can't you tell me what the message is about on the voice mail). I called and could hear it was the same woman that left the voice mail. Yet she had no memory of it at first. Then remembered and said "I was calling about another property". I said no, I just want to see this ONE property that I called about at the weekend and you were supposed to arrange. "Oh but can I tell you about this property". NO!
REALLY annoying fox and son are.
I've been tempted to agree to a viewing for one of the £1mill flats and then not turn up.0 -

How would you expect your EA to recognise a PAYG mobile number, given that there is no such thing?0 -
I only use a PAYG mobile for everything, landline phone unplugged.0

Just say 'I don't have an email address' or 'I'm having to change it as we're leaving Sky' or something. Job done. It's not compulsory to have (or provide) an email address.
Had exactly the same issues when looking. I'm used to 100s of emails a day as I enter loads of comps and get newsletters, etc, but it was driving even me insane when several branches of one EA kept emailing me random things coming onto their books - I was looking in Leigh-on-Sea and they were sending me flats in Stratford and houses in Sudbury! Just block them - I did. Although there should be an 'unsubscribe' option in most. I found they just ignored it though.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
Given them a throw away address now. Should really sort out a rule that any e-mail that comes from Fox and Son gets forwarded to Fox and Son. So they essentially spam themselves. That should make them stop.0

You have to register with an EA to look at a property, you tell them what your looking for, the sort of price range what your buying position is together with your name and contact details. Thats normal.
I tend to ignore emails from EA's because its all on rightmove anyway, and they are rarely relevant to what I'm looking for.0 -

Many EA's are like this. You have to speak to them as you would a child.0
