DLA after death

I know... weird idea.

My father died eighteen months ago, and HMRC has - just yesterday - finally repaid to his estate an overpayment of income tax made while he was alive.

That leaves only one item outstanding on his Estate Statement, and that is DLA.

DLA is paid in arrears, so at the time of his death he will have been due somewhere between zero and four weeks' worth of the beneift.

Is the notional amount that DWP owed cancelled/voided on death, or ought I to be expecting/chasing a payment?

Because it might be a situation ecountered by someone on either of the two.

The only way you are going to find out is to look at the bank statements and find out when the last payment was made. Then telephone the DLA and ask if the estate is owed any money.

Yes, that process was instigated eighteen months ago.

I don't have bank statements, as the deceased was running his account 'paperless'.

Even without them, it's obviously highly likely that at date of death, some incoming DLA would be outstanding.

I just wondered if anyone might happen to have encountered this situation personally and be aware of the treatment of the matter, for example whether entitlement (of the estate) to unpaid sums lapses immediately upon the death of the recipient.

If not, clearly I shall (attempt to...) obtain an answer from DWP.
