From a quick bit of research Profile Pensions are FCA regulated and authorised to advise on pension transfer. They seem to find "lost" pensions for free and then transfer them somewhere for you.

Is that what your wife asked them to do? How did she hear about them? Did they contact her?

    If so.....

If your wife died before taking the pension there is almost certainly some benefit to you. I dont see any point thinking about a transfer until you have sorted out what this is. Depending on your wife's age, the nature of the pension and the scheme rules it could be a tax free cash lump sum, in which case you wouldnt need a transfer and you wouldnt need to pay Profile Pensions or anyone else to get the money.

Pehaps you can give us more information on the pension, eg who with and was it Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution, whether your wife had started to claim it and what Profile Pensions were going to do. Was your wife still working for the company? Also your wife's age.
  • Will look some more into it
  • Hello again

After looking through the letter, Profile Pensions first contacted my wife last October, I have received two forms which she would have needed to fill in to start the review .... can i still complete these ? She was 48 years young and was in full time employment, in various jobs throughout her life, and was at her last place for the last 3 years. Do i need to contact them to see if i am able to carry on ?
    many thanks
  • You do not say what they were proposing to do for her. If it was to transfer a pension then no you cannot, and if her current employers pention has death in service benefits that it would be a bad move anyway.

If they were looking for lost pensions then yes but please be aware that they will charge for this service and if you know who her previous employers were there is a free alternative.

    So sorry for your loss.

As far as 'Profile Pensions' is concerned, cut all contact with them. Their only interest is getting a cut of your wife's pension - but her death now makes any pension benefits YOUR pension rights, and you don't need them to make a claim for you.

As you seem to know where she worked, you should contact each HR department to advise them of your wife's death and to ask if she had any pension benefits with them. Keep pedalling's link may help you with that.

Good luck, and come back to us if you need any more help.

    P.S.
I'd ask one of the board guides to transfer this thread to the pensions board.
