Loose floor tiling onto floorboards
Comments

again the fein will remove the old adhesive....
with regards to th floating floor you must understand what a floating floor is...
for example one of the big things in tiling these days is called ditra. this is what we call a decoupling membrane therefore creating a floating floor...
as long as the correct adhesives and grouts are used there shouldnt be an issue.....
with regards to the cleaning off as long as an emulsifying pad is used it is easy...

if the tiles are 'rocking by .5mm' then how is a stronger grout going to help? Sounds like a botch to me. The whole lot needs lifted and done again.
As tile guru says, pva shouldnt have been used........... so, any remedial work is just hiding the issues for a short period of time.
As BP says, appoxy grout is a real pain to work with and i would never even think of doing this to cover up all the other problemsgo on, adopt a greyhound

Hi
As usual OH has researched it...

'Substrate preparation'
All the installation guides assume the substrate to be fixed properly at 16" intervals.
I understand the principal of a floating floor, it's one that isn't fixed at any point across it's entire area, isn't it?
The phrase ' building a house on sand' comes to mind.
To the OP, I think you should stop, go back to the beginning and fix the floor before you tile.IMO you will spend a vast amount of time and effort using all kinds of wonderful products and in six months time take it all up.
PS I Know the site is for North America but the product is German The reason it's more popular in N.A is the fact that timber frame construction is the primary build method in the domestic sector.

Thanks to everyone for their comments, especially Guru.
The floorboards are actually quite rigid. I have lifted a few tiles and found that the adhesive is stuck completely to the floorboards with none on the tiles. The tiler used a special flexible porcelain friendly adhesive, but with 16-24 hrs curing. He walked on some of the tiles after about 12 hrs and I think this broke the bond between adhesive and tiles. All the other tiles seem to be OK. So we will replace the loose tiles and replace the grout on their adjacent tiles.
The best adhesive remover seems to be a really sharp, broad wood chisel.
Once again, thanks to everyone.0
