Car insurance

Yesterday I had a call from my car insurance company, stating that they never set up my direct debit for payment. I brought this to their attention back in June buy they never followed this up so I assumed they had fixed it and for various reasons I hadn’t noticed the payment not leaving my account.
They called yesterday to say that they are wanting to collect the almost £800 I owe by the time my policy ends on March 24th. Now I do not have the funds to pay this and don’t know how best to continue. They are calling me back at 1pm to discuss how to continue.
Please help!

You do owe the money, but see if they will accept it in instalments as they are (slightly!) responsible for you spending the money they should have taken

If you don't pay expect them to cancel the policy and pursue you
  • As quentin suggests as if it can be done via installments as it was down to there error.
  • As per above, point to note is that if you don't pay and they cancel, you'll have no cover for the period you've had and not paid for, and have to declare a policy cancellation going forward.

Push for a resolution which allows you to pay in instalments, however make sure you pay for the cover you've had or the longer term repercussions will be far worse!

He said they were slightly responsible.
The responsibility for budgetting ones money and making sure bills are paid and most importantly - you are insured is down to the individual.
