Santander 123: Does active dds mean every month?

Options
Sorry if this has been discussed recently, I couldn't see the answer on a quick search or Santander's website.
I was wondering if a credit card counts as an active direct debit if it is only collecting a direct debit every 2 or 3 months or if both direct debits need to be debited every month?

Comments

  • That should work fine.
Santander dd's do not have to be collected each month and could be left upto 12/13 months before they become inactive.

  • That will work absolutely fine. As long as your direct debits are active, there is nothing that states that they must be taken every month.

Another example is council tax, you may only pay 10 months of the year but the other 2 months it still remains active.

Normally Direct Debits go inactive if not taken for 13 consecutive months.

  • Yes, that works fine. Just make sure it is showing as active on your direct debit list.

Thanks for your replies. I couldn't find an email address for Santander to ask them and when I phoned customer services the man I spoke to said the direct debits had to go out every month to get interest on the account. However he had to check with someone else so thought I'd ask here to see if anyone knew for sure as I seemed to recall reading the debits could be less frequent than every month.

    Well, he is wrong.

If the DDs had to pay out every month, then Santander's T&C would say that. They don't;).

He might be getting confused with cashback, in as much as if a DD for say Council Tax isn't paid for 2 months of the year, then obviously Santander won't pay cashback in those missing 2 months.

Or, he might simply be misinformed:cool:

Always encouraging when customer services know about the products!

Sadly, its not unusual when they don't. Its also not unusual for them to make up their own T&Cs.
