Learning manual from auto insurance trouble

Hi,
My girlfriend has held an automatic licence for two years. She's now wanting to upgrade to a manual licence. It would be her dad teaching her to drive in her own car.
The DVLA say that you don't need to get a provisional licence, just as long as you follow the rules of learning.
One insurance company told her she would need a provisional (which is a lie) while the rest have told her it's not in their policy to cover that.
Obviously if she just insures herself on a manual without clearance then she's driving illegally.
Does anyone know of an insurance company that would cover her? She's desperate to learn manual.

You don't need a provisional licence but must follow all the other rules for learners (L plates/supervisor with you etc)
So discuss with her insurer to see if they cover learners and take it from their reply
If this fails see if a local broker (not Swinton) can help0 -
It's probaby simpler to learn in a driving school car and only get a manual car once she's passed her test. She already knows 90% of what's needed so the number of lessons required will hopefully be quite small.0
