Faulty boiler causing high gas bill. Who pays??

Yeah guys, I appreciate that members have been helpful in the other thread. But yeah I just wanted a simple answer to a hypothetical. Which I've now got. Thanks.
I'm just ruling out a few possibilities.
Cos things are getting hot.
Edf have washed their hands of this as the ombudsmen has ruled in their favor. They no longer want to discuss this matter any further . The outstanding bill is Going to court.
In the period in question the gas man did visit and carry out some work on the boiler. So landlord clearly isn't at fault then. He's a decent bloke.always does things quick. I don't quite know what the work done was and the gas man can't recall and doesn't have a record. Hmm. The might insist he go back through his records.
Looks like im screwed though really. Might just pay up and be done with it.0 -
Cash strapped. Thanks for your ideas.Yes flat conversion. With one upstairs, us down.
The mprn numbers match.
Since Dec 2016 my bills for gas have been what you would call normal.
So things are ok again. So I guess that would rule out any issue with boiler due to it being ancient no?
But could support the theory that there was an issue with the boiler (that was causing the high usage) that the gas man came and fixed....returning the boiler and the bills to normal.0 -
How about another hypothetical??
Let's say I and the energy company Discover that a gas leak was responsible for that high useage.
Would I still have to pay?0 -

If the gas leak is on the consumer side of the meter then you would have to pay. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks hengus but what does that mean? What's the consumer side?
These hypotheticals are just be trying to rule out scenarios....
It appears theres not actually any situation where I wouldn't be liable for this bill...0 -
Suppliers want to be paid for all usage recorded by their meters. Faults/leaks after the meter are the sole responsibility of the consumer. Your only hope is to prove that the meter in your property is defective. Has it actually been checked by the supplier? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. No they won't check it now.
They are saying that if it's now correctly recording gas usage, which it is, then there's not a problem with the meter.
Is that true? Is it impossible for a faulty meter to record wrongly, then correctly, then perhaps wrongly again further down the line?
Is there any other way I can arrange a meter check?0 -

Thank you. This kind of clears things up for me0
