Quick question re comparing tariffs

Help! My freetime tariff is finally coming to an end and I have been running comparisons. BG tell me my personal projection is 3715 kwh pa elec and 85kwh pa gas.

The one saving most money is through Solarplicity (£229 pa) and the next is Scottish Power (£186 pa).

However, are Solarplicity any good? Is Scottish Power any good for that matter?

Thank you for any views :D

Three sources of feedback: Trustpilot; this forum (just search for 'supplier' feedback) and Citizens Advice complaints tables.

Can anyone guarantee that your transfer will be seamless; billing spot on and customer service excellent, the short answer is 'no'. Are you sure that your gas usage is only 85kWhs? If so, you want a supplier that offers a no standing charge tariff for gas. For electricity, have a look at Bulb; Octopus and Tonik: they all offer customer referral fees which are not included in PCW price comparisons. Have a look at the Referrals Board.

Yes 85kwh I only have a gas cooker and rarely cook, so it's mainly daily fees, which I have to grin and bear. Rented property though or I would get an electric cooker!

Thank you - I will look at the Referrals Board and Trust Pilot. I ran a comparison and the two above were based on my postcode and low gas usage.

I've had a look at the threads on supplier feedback on both and neither seem positive!

You do not have to pay a standing charge for gas. Just choose a tariff with no standing charge. You will pay a slightly higher unit cost but it will, in total, be considerably less than what you are paying at the moment. If it helps: If I am with Zog for gas at the moment and they are first-class. I am also in the process of switching away from Bulb and I would rate them very highly as well. My new electricity supplier will be Octopus which will see £50 credited to my account within 10 days of the transfer.

If your use of gas is that low it is certainly worth having a seperate supplier for gas that does not have a standing charge.

For electric it is worth looking at Bulb or Octopus, as both credit you with £50, even for a single transfer, once your switch has completed.

You also have the potential to earn more credits if "Friends & Family" use the referral code that you get when you switch to them.

We helped a relative switch to Octopus and she has already built up enough referral credits (if they all go through OK) to cover her electricity bill for the next year.

I've gone off both Solarplicity and Scottish Power after reading Trustpilot!

I think rather than dual fuel I will look to switch separately. Definitely zero standing charge for gas otherwise that's about £89 pa according to Bulb!

It's so complex trying to find the right deal with the right (good) supplier. BG have their faults but they've had good customer service in my experience over the last 20 months. Ish.

I was the same as you with just a gas cooker. I would think you would be much better off switching to Ebico Zero. No standing charges but over 5 p /kwh for gas. would be less than £5 a year . BG were charging me £85 a year standing charges for gas.
Ebico only do this tariff for credit meters so if yours is a prepayment meter , switch it !

Standing charge yes or no depends upon your usage .Usually the unit rate is higher .

I think that we have given you enough hints based on our personal experience but there are never any guarantees.

I believe my standing charge is 25p per day, quite a lot over the year.

    As is mine.

I've got a quote from Ebico which is 37p per month :rotfl: surely they wouldn't let me switch for this amount! Obviously they wouldn't let me pay DD lol.

The electricity one with a zero standing charge was about 17p per kwh which wiped out the savings on the gas zero standing charge.

I've taken allll the hints on board and am researching like crazy!
