OP plans to leave on the last day of the month as he doesn't think he'll get paid for any days in March should he not give his full notice.

Let's just hope that the employer doesn't make an example of him and that the new job isn't subject to references...but my experience of the construction industry is that people talk amongst themselves anyway.

    Indeed.

they have offered me the role in the new company and i'm really happy....

bit of fine tuning to this resignation letter and i'll be leaving here for the final time on Wednesday.....

there is a few home truths in this letter but i doubt he will take much notice

    :A
Absolutely brilliant news, delighted for you!

As for the "home truths", I'd be inclined to leave them out. Walk away with your head held high.

Thing is the home truths are part and parcel of my explanation for resigning. I have been in jobs before that i had plenty to say and I've always handed in a brief letter and worked my notice.

    This place is different.

I think without any explanation it reflects badly on me. With the letter I truly justify exactly how badly he has behaved and why I can take it no longer.

Chairman reads letter, finds out where you now work and calls them..... what then?!

i think after a 2 minute conversation with him and a 45 minute interview with me i'm pretty confident they'd see what the situation is....

i could get numerous professional references for people who have worked with him and they will all back me up

At the end of the day you're effectively quitting anyway, telling them why you're quitting isn't necessarily a bad thing if it's worded well.

I've quit a few jobs and told a few line managers what I thought of them over the years and it's never hindered my progress.

Maybe I'm just getting old but nowadays I'd be more inclined to keep my opinions to myself.

None of us know how bad the place is, we can only guess. You will know best how to handle it and what, if anything, is likely to happen as a result.

All the best in your new job!

Well done, Living Bate, I'm really happy for you. I wish you the very best of luck in your new job and would be interested to know how you get on, if you feel like updating us in a while.

Again, well done, you really deserve a break. :j:T:j
  • thanks again fatrab and Smodlet....

I will pop back and give an update. It could be a useful thread for others who find themselves in a similar situation.

Wouldn't be right if the end of the story was missing....

Absolutely. So many times, one never gets to hear the end of the story or what happened next.

It is a pleasure to encourage people like yourself, LB. Onwards and upwards!

But if you're not prepared to work your complete notice, you lose any right to that moral high ground.

As I said people in any profession do talk and I know of people who have turned down jobs once they learn of a person/company's reputation.
