Urgent Help Needed RE Customs Charges

I recently bought some items from the United States and had them delivered by Fed Ex . The company did not have one item in stock so sent the 2 they did have in stock to me. They offered to send a replacement free of charge of a different item in stock in leiu of the one they did not have in stock. Note they knew i would have to pay an additional customs charge. They knew that I would have to pay additional charges. I paid the import taxes on the first shipment but because they sent an additional parcel im now liable for additional charges . Im lumbered with a 27.00 charges on a product worth £13.00. And Advice on how to deal with the situation will be most helpful.I think it is reasonable that I should not have to pay these charges.

You shouldn't have to pay customs duty on an item worth only £13 from US. Goods up to around £20 should get through without charge

I have all the details in front of me now the only information given was the invoices in a plastic bag. I have noticed on the invoice it has two items not one this was the item in question:

    at $19.99 which is only £9.75 .

what should i do now contact the supplier of the goods and ask them to pay the charges or shall i get onto fedex

I'm confused now! Are you saying you've been invoiced for 2 items by mistake (this would take you to around the duty payable level)? Have Fedex actually paid a customs charge?
  • The order was split the items would be worth just a little over £18.00 on the first shipment but the second shipment goods would only be worth £9.75. On the invoice there are two items not one Yes lolarentt.I can understand totally the first charge and was willing to pay it but this secondary charge should not be anywhere near 27.00
  • My brother had this with FedX. Apparently part of the charge for him was, i think they said 'administration charge', (something along those lines, it was a charge to do with a contract they said he had with them) but as he had never signed a contract the charge wasnt legal. He wrote to them stating this and asking them to re calculate the charges which they did.

    Just to confirm things

I should not have been charged any thing at all with the 2nd parcel ?
  • I'm not to sure. I will ask my brother when he gets home as he did quite abit of research.

  • I have just rang fedex and they have confirmed to me that the company had made an error. They should have put the same airway bill number on the 2nd parcel as they did on the first . Due to this mistake the further charges were insitgated against me. Ill be asking for the Company to pay these charges in the light of this does anyone think this is also fair ?

    They'll blame Fedex.

Are these charges Fedex customs clearing charges rather than duty and vat?
