Help re: which new Combi boiler to pick

Dear all,

I have had someone around to price the replacement of our old combi boiler, which is dead.

Which is the best option please?

Viessmann Vitodens 050 combi with 10yr warranty
Alpha Eco tec with 10yr warranty
Worcester Bosch Greenstar with 5yr warranty.
All 35kw

Viessmann is £600 dearer than the other two. WB and Alpha cost the same, but Alpha has double the warranty. I’m leaning towards the Alpha but am not familiar with them.

Any advice please?

Many thanks!

I had never heard of Alpha either but had one installed June 2016 after my old boiler finally died. I too was impressed with the guarantee. Boiler packed up last week during the coldest week if the year, my local plumber (who fitted it) could not find the fault so called the Alpha rep who called me within 30 mins to arranged for one of their engineers to pay me a visit.

The engineer called me at 5pm the same day to come see me 11am the next morning. Had the boiler fixed in 45 mins and all covered by the guarantee. Great service.

I have a Worcester Bosch installed last year, by a Worcester accredited installer. I also had to have a Worcester thermostat fit to qualify for a full 10year guarantee
maybe check if this offer is still available (full parts and labour) to compare to the other boilers
  • For starters the Viessmann 050 does not come with a 10 yr warentee it is only the main heat exchanger that has the 10 yrs it has 3 years or 7 years if the installer is Viessmann trained & is the cheapest of their range.

What prices have you been quoted for the 3 options ?
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Worcester every time for me. had 2 in past 10 years (2 different houses) without a moment's trouble. Super-efficient and reliable. 10 yr warranty if you get a WB thermostat too and a WB registered installer. Current one is a 42i in a 4 bed house. Just my experience, FWIW.

I would choose the Viessmann though I would go with the next model up the 100w for not much more.
Uses a stainless steel heat exchanger rather than aluminium which is much more resistant to break down/ oxidation/ clogging up/ less maintanence.

A very good yet affordable one not on your list is Intergas Combi Compact HRE. Not as common in the UK as the others but getting more popular as installers discover how good they are.

We've booked in for the same in 2 weeks time, got it over 4 years interest free credit too, works out about £55 a month :T

Personally i would go with the Worcester and see if you can get the 10 year warranty. Don't know where the person quoting gets there boilers but £600 more for the viessmann is ridiculous as it is roughly £200 cheaper than the worcester and the alpha is the cheapest of the lot
