Have I been mis sold contents insurance?

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting.

I've recently had an accident at home where my laptop had water spilled on it. Naturally, I called my home and contents insurance as I do have accidental damage cover. They then however informed me this is not covered as I need to have extended accidental damage cover due to it being portable.

My problem here is this insurance was sold to me through a mortgage advisor, who at the time searched and found the policy for me and stated that I now had accidental damage cover as part of the policy to cover my home electricals and gadgets.

I understand I should of probably noted the cover I was missing when I received my policy details but unfortunately I didn't and now I am stuck without.

Can anyone help with this?

To answer your question no you weren't missold. Unless the agent directly told you water spillage onto a laptop WAS covered.

Accidental damage has many clauses and exclusions as to what is and isn't deemed accidental. Hence why people are advised to review all documents and if there is any issue or cover requires extension to change it.

Most plans give a very basic level of accidental damage as standard to a handful of specified electrical devices. To get full accidental damage cover, you need to pay for full accidental damage cover.

On insurance cases sold after January 2005, you are given a summary of what you asked for and what you have got. Its called the statement of demands and needs. You should read these. Typically its a page or two only.
