Are stamps legal tender?

Hi
I have 6 books of first class letter stamps from Royal mail as supposed compensation for lost parcels etc. I have asked them not to pay in stamps, but they keep doing so. Our post office won't accept them as payment for my parcels. I thought that stamps were legal tender, but if the post office won't accept them - are they right or not? Also anyone else having problems with claims for missing items? I have had a few in lately and they are missing paying postage, asking me for proof of wholesaler etc. differnet way of dealing with every claim - anyone else had this?

Why not just stick them all over your parcels and pay the balance?
Will they not allow you to do that?
Christmas is coming up surely you can get rid of them on all your cards?0 -
I'm sure that I was once told by the Post Office that, once you've bought some stamps then they will not accept them back.
Someone else will hopefully be able to confirm this and explain why.0 -
I can understand the post office not accepting to take stamps and give you cash for them, as they can be bought from Costco for less than their face value, so everyone would just take 100`s of stamps in and get the cash for them. But i dont see a problem with using them to pay for part postage, as they will probably stick stamps on anyway. Unless they print out the stamp. But ive never had a problem putting some stamps on and the PO printing the rest of the postage price.0

If you want to get rid of them, you can sell the stamps on Ebay. You will get your money back that way.0 -
Is this normal then for Royal Mail to pay back in Stamps for loss of items?
Ive never had to claim for any loss,so I wouldnt know. only missing postal orders Ive sent to other sellers. And the RM in return sent me a Postal Order back!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
If the value of the missing package is slightly less than the price of a book of stamps then it's quite normal for them to send stamps.
I once worked in a Directory Enquiries call centre where, if someone claimed a refund (e.g. if they'd phoned and been given the wrong information), they would be sent stamps, which we were told are a form of currency.0
