Fire and smoke strips on fire doors

Does anyone know if you need fire and smoke strips on fire doors internally in your house or are fire only strips sufficient?

I've done some googling but most of it seems to talk about garage into a house door rather than merely internal doors.

Thanks

You don't actually need fire doors at all internally in a "normal domestic" house - the only place it's required is if there's a door from an integral garage directly into the house. The only other place they are required is : "New build or renovated domestic properties which have 3 or more storeys (including loft conversions) must have fire doors to every habitable room off the stairwell."

Sorry, I didn't specify, this is a renovation of a property with 3 stories and so the rooms which come off the stairwell are having fire doors installed. Do you know if they need fire and smoke strips or only fire strips?

Only fire strips is much nicer visually but obviously for safety reasons if I need fire and smoke strips I will install them

For a definitive answer you need to speak to your local building control department as these are the people who will issue a building control certificate.

Have doors been specified if so, as an example FD60 is a fire door with an intumescent strip, FD60S is the same fire rating but with a smoke seal.

As the above response, the way to know for certain is to confirm it with your building control officer however as there is no requirement to have closers in a domestic situation they may well agree to no smoke seals.

what level of "renovation" is happening? Why are building control involved in it?
Generally with renovation you only have to ensure internal elements are no worse than the existing, rather than upgrading everything to current regs

Doors have been specified as FD30, no specifics as to intumescent strips.I'll get in contact with them today. Thanks

So existing was very not to any sort of safety spec. It is a full renovation , electrics, everything. Building control are involved because there are structural alterations.

How old is the house? Most old houses aren't to any kind of safety spec as they pre-date building regs...
If the existing house has access to 3 storeys it's up to you what spec the doors are. They can only apply regulations appropriate to the works you are undertaking - of you're minded to change/upgrade for your own piece of mind, go for the safest you can reasonably afford

The house is probably 1930s. It's a full renovation so they want all the fire stuff done but haven't been very specific
