Yes, it's only for new customers who apply before 28th February.

A couple of years ago they gave you £5 a month just for using the card!

The Platinum Travel Barclaycard offers interest-free non-sterling cash withdrawals until the statement date. And no, there isn't a fee.

I mentioned it previously they could only effort it as part of the promotional event. They will not be able to maintain it indefinitely, as doing this for cash withdrawal they are actually making a loss.

My understanding is that Barclay will only do it until 31 August 2022. After this, the fee returns to 2.99%.

If the intention not to pay the tiny interest for cash withdrawal why apply for a Barclay Creditcard when you could have other better alternatives with Starling Bank, Monzo, loot, revolut. Not to mention the specialist debit cards.

It's 4 and a half years! I'd wager some of the above will either fold or stop offering fee free foreign use in that time. As we've seen regularly with other fee free travel cards.

As zagfiles has pointed out, based on precedent with Metro Bank and Nationwide debit cards, I'm not very optimistic that those options will outlast the Barclaycard. There will probably be other options available in 2022, and switching cards every 4-5 years doesn't seem particularly onerous.

A curious question: we are on holiday and drew out £20 in escudos on the Clarity card via ATM. It was the ATM in the hotel lobby, so we felt it was secure.

Because we had wanted actually more cash (really £200, but had misunderstood the 000's in the currency conversion) , we realised our mistake and had a second go to draw out £200 in escudos. The ATM paid out, gave us our receipt, but retained the credit card.

Is this because of a second transaction in the same day, or something more worrying? The hotel receptionist says they can't do anything until the banks open at 8am tomorrow. We are concerned because we fear the card being cloned or misused in some way.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Unless it displayed an announcement that your card was being retained, it's probably some kind of fault. You probably will have to wait until the ATM is serviced, whenever that will be, but perhaps you can find out when the bank opens and be on hand in case you can receive the card directly at that time, but don't count on this. Keep an eye on your Halifax app in case any transactions are made. Perhaps Halifax can put a temporary block if you call them, unlike with Starling Bank, Monzo etc, you cannot temporarily block the card with the app. Hopefully you have some backup cards.
    Evolution, not revolution
  • I applied for the Clarity card, however it has not arrived in time for my trip. I was hoping to get the £20 cash back for making a transaction abroad before the 31st March. I read the terms and conditions and it just says transaction in a foreign currency so wondered if buying online would count? I need to buy something and pay in USD. What do people think?

Looking to get a Clarity card as i go abroad once or twice a year now. How often do you have to use the card before it goes inactive? Like i said it will only be used a few times a year in an emergency

I bought an extra watch strap from ebay.ca for $1. Coming from China. I hope that counts :)
