Switching Bank Accounts - Dummy Accounts

Hi, Appologies if this has already been discussed.

I currently have 3 bank accounts (TSB Classic Plus, First Direct & Nationwide Flex Direct).. all of which I'd like to keep.

I was wondering if it was possible to setup a dummy account, say a standard Nationwide Flex Account, and then use this to switch to Halifax before 19th march? Would the account need to have some activity / DDs before I could switch?

any help / suggestions would be muchly appreciated.

Thank you.

Nationwide Flex account is a good choice for this. Apply when logged into your online banking and the process is quick. Just wait for your debit card and then start the switch to Halifax. No activity or direct debits required (I put a token £5 in the account but I don't think this is necessary).

While your at it you could open a second flex account (you're allowed four nationwide current accounts in total) ready for another switch. You could open the Natwest Select account before this Friday and switch the 2nd flex account to this one to receive another £125 in April. There are a couple of hoops to jump through for Natwest but no direct debits required.
    NatWest switching terms .
You should pay attention to the needs of the moment - otherwise there is no future. But to ignore the future is foolish - living solely for the moment leaves nothing for when the next moment arrives.

Would I have to start the switch to natwest on Friday or just apply for the account? As I wouldn't receive my debit card from nationwide before Friday..

Mogley has provided a link to the switching incentive T&Cs. Your question is answered in condition 1(a).

You only need to apply for the account by Friday. During the application process you can say that you want to switch and then select a date that you want to make the switch on (allowing time for the debit card to arrive - should be within a week of your account opening). As long as you choose a date before 16th March you will qualify for the bonus.
