Change meter to move supplier

I was with ovo / boost which was good to start with -
Got a smart meter which is meant to help to bring usage / bills down, all good to start with until it changed to boost the. Their prices got ridiculous - went from 70-80 per month to £130.
I decided to move supplier and to get a credit meter, none of the smaller companies would do this so I we T with the cheapest big 6 supplier, eon who told me once I start getting energy from them I can phone up and get meter changed over to a proper credit one (they can use this smart meter as a credit one) phoned up and n due to them being able to use smart as credit meter they refused to change it stating they would have to charge me, does anyone know of any sites where I can find out companies that can use smart meters as credit meters? Or how I can get meter changed for free from anyone?

  • It is because Ovo chose the cheap and nasty Secure Liberty smart meters that you have a restricted option with suppliers who can live with this appalling meter.
Cash strapped Eon have recently opted to insult their customers by buying this dreadful Indian made meter which is designed for small businesses (SME s ) in India.
The gas IHD confuses occupiers by displaying usage in KWHs and the electric smart meter displays, (if you are quick enough to spot it scrolling round ) in Kwarh s as well as Kwh s with its confusing 8 digit display and a miniscule decimal point. Very user unfriendly meter.
How come all the other smart meter manufacturers have managed to make a usable smart meter which does nt need a tiny 10 digit keyboard ?
I advise the OP to switch to EDF who can t use this meter in prepay mode but will exchange for a proper meter and they will be able to switch you to credit meter billing to enable you to grab the best tariffs in the UK away from SVT or prepay rip off rates
