How long should my oven last

I bought a decent hoover oven less than 3 years ago and was really delighted with it, but over the past few weeks it has started to take nearly an hour to heat up. Is this normal for things to go downhill so soon and what can I do about it? If I had known it wouldn't be any better than a cheap brand I probably wouldn't have splashed out.

I remember seeing a mean failure graph on white goods years ago, looked like a bath (inverted bell curve?) that showed high failure in first 12 months then pretty stable next 4 years and increasing again in year 5. I think it was to demonstrate lack of value in 3 year warranties.

3 years though, I'd say that's a little soon, you could try the manufacturer but I doubt you'll get anywhere.

Go back to where you bought it. Goods have to be 'fit for purpose AND last a reasonable length of time'. Three years is surely not a reasonable lifetime for an oven.

It's possible it has two elements or even three, top, sides & back and one or more of them has failed.

OP, does sound like one of the elements has gone - our convection oven has one at the top and one at the bottom, and we had similar problems. We had cover with D&G from a previous problem with our oven, so they came out and replaced the dodgy element. Saying that, ours was about 8 years old. 3 years sounds short, but I think like most things in life, it's probably just bad luck it's gone so soon.

If it is the element there are cheap replacements available online, and videos that will show you how to fit, we were quoted loads by tradesmen and told cheaper to buy new, I researched it and had it done in under 20 minutes. Need to make sure you!!!8217;re safe with it but the videos will cover off what you need to do.

If it!!!8217;s a fan only oven it could be that the fan has gone so make sure that!!!8217;s spinning up, again easy to replace
