Smart tv and tv aerial

Options
Can i watch a smart tv without an external aerial. We want a small tv for the spare room but have no aerial socket.

Would we be able to get on demand without an aerial?

You should be able to watch the catch up services (iPlayer etc) without an aerial. You won't be able to watch broadcast TV. You may need to plug a working aerial in for initial setup before you can access everything though.

I know the boxnation channel despite actually being delivered over the internet won't work without an aerial, I think that's down to the way Freeview works so you may have extremely limited use of it.

If you can get any sort of signal with a small internal aerial it may be enough to fool the system.

Im wondering whether to get a smart tv and just use the on demand. Should that work?

you can download several apps that will give u live tv or get a firestick.
Look in your tv app store.

See my post immediately above yours.

If you're just going to use on demand you'd be better off buying a Firestick or similar for £40 rather than a few hundred on a Smart TV that you may have limited use of. Or if you have a computer just plug that into your existing TV.

I'm sure I've seen people in this forum having this plan, but the TV wants to have an aerial signal to complete setup. That seems a bit daft, and I would have thought there was a way to bypass it, but you've been warned!

Set up the tv downstairs on main aerial then it will be fine using upstairs as long as decent WiFi / Ethernet in bedroom or buy a cheaper tv and get a now tv box
