Just booked myself a great deal to visit PortAventura in October with British Airways Holidays.
Flights Heathrow to Barcelona with luggage and 3 nights half board at Hotel PortAventura including unlimited park access plus one day access to Ferrari Land £245 per person based on two adults sharing, drops down to £229 if four share. For two adults and two children it's even lower, at £173 per person!
There's some flexibility to move the flight dates around without affecting the price if you use the "multiple hotel" option (you don't have to add another hotel). I've tacked on 3 nights in Barcelona first although booked my hotel elsewhere as for some reason BA's Barcelona hotel rates aren't great.
I've booked to fly out Friday 28 September and back to London on Thursday 4 October but if you're taking kids for the October half term it's still really reasonable at £221 per person.
One thing you will have to factor in is either car hire or coach transfers from the airport (transfers are about €30 per person return).

if you fly at certain times to can fly into Reus, and you can get a taxi from there for 4 for £14. What we did once was fly into reus at 9am, with Ryanair ,in hotel for 10 30 am, then flew back from barcelona with easyjet at 11pm last day as return flights from Reus were at 11am, AND were dearer than the barca flights home so we got a whole extra day for less than flying back from reus!I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky.
