Ok, here we go..... I have been on here before asking about my entitlement to housing benefit and I have one question. With my salary I am told by people that I am not entitled to it yet when I go onto renfrewshire councils housing benefit calculator it tells me I'm entitled to £75 a week.... is the calculator really meant for people that dont work???

i really dont think these calculators are any good imho. by all means ask for a reassessment but at the end of the day its the councils own computer system specifically designed for the calculation of housing and council tax benefit that says yes or no. these online calculators are not very good. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0

You are entering your figures incorrectly newbie.
As you earn approx £17000 a year, your gross weekly pay is £326, and after tax and NI your net pay is approx £258.
If you enter these figures into the calculator above, your entitlement shows as £0.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Yes i am entering all figures correctly.0

Housing Benefit
Newbie is eligible for HB.
Newbie's weekly rate of HB is £0.00.
You do not qualify because of the following
Your income takes you out of benefitGone ... or have I?0 -
my rent is £330
I do not work 40 hours a week and I do not have any other income.
Why are you so against me getting a benefit?
Oh and I am not male I am female!!!!!!0 -
Well, if your rent is less then you are definitely not entitled!
The number of hours that you work is irrelevant, I entered 40 as an average full time week.
I am not against you getting benefit, I am trying to stop you wasting your time pursuing something that you are not entitled to!Gone ... or have I?0 -
For peace of mid why not just get the forms and send all the details to the council, the websites are there as aguide, say you get no rent rebate, all youve wasted is hr of your time and a stamp, if you get any rebate, then that sbrilliant.
My motto is - If you dont ask you dont get - ok sometimes you get sometimes you dont but at least you will have the peace of mind knowing youve tried.xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
As you seem adamant that you are entitled to this (even though the calculator says your not!) then instead of posting the same question numerous times, spend the time instead going to your benefits/council office and get them to confirm it for you.0

Daisyflower I have posted the question twice!!!0

newbie this is how HB is calculated:
You take your income(after tax and NI) + any other income eg tax credits and work out the weekly amount.
Using the figures dmg24 quoted your income is £258 per week
We then compare these to what is called an applicable amount. This is the amount the government say someone in your circumstances can live on. These figures are set by the government and are used by every council.
For a single person with no children aged over 25 your applicable amount is £59.15
We ignore the first £5 of your income so for HB purposes your income is £253, the applicable amount is then deducted from your income
253.00 - 59.15 = 193.85 (this figure is called excess income)we then use 65% of this figure to calculate HB
193.85*65% = 126.00 this is the amount of rent you would have to pay each week before you would receive any help with your rent. The same calculation is used for CTB but instead of 65% it is 20%
193.85*20% = 38.77 this is how much council tax you would need to pay each week before you would get benefit.
As your rent is 330 per month - 76.15 per week you are not entitled to HB
If your council tax is higher than £2016 per year you would receive CTB any lower and you are not entitled.
I hope this has helped, if not let me know and i'll try and explain it again0
