It is an easy drive from Toronto to Niagara Falls. It is approx 150km (95 miles) and takes about 90 mins to 2 hours depending upon the traffic. It is a “straight road” called the Queen Elizabeth Way.
If you are going to hire a car make the arrangements before you go as it will be cheaper. You may also want to cross over to the US side of the Falls. Indeed, there is probably a bit more to do and see there including Goat Island. So do not forget your passports. You will though, unless they have changed things recently,at the land border you will have to pay (was $5 per person) for the Visa Waiver that you normally get free when you enter the US direct by plane. You could walk across at Rainbow Bridge but I would recommend taking car as there is lots to do and see. There was a toll on the bridge as well ($1 or so but cannot remember wheter going to or from US!!).
The Canadian Side is a bit tacky (Blackpool'ish) and the US side a bit run down especially if you go away from the falls. There is a good shopping outlet centre on the US side about 20 mins drive from the Falls on Military Road.
I can only recoomend the falls though. It is a fantastic experience.0 -
Did the same about a month ago (as in hiring a car for Niagara). Went with Budget. Worked out slightly cheaper on the UK site than the Canadian site. We booked the night before when we were in Toronto. So you may want to check out the prices.
In terms of going to the States with your hire car, they may charge you more, because of the insurance issue. You should check with the hire company beforehand though.
