    Followed up by ...................?
  • Gold plated spam, I would think.
  • Not at the moment unless short-dated and you don't mind the low return.
  • What about long term ?

20 years? 30 years? Bonds and Gilts are used to preserve your investment more than make large gains so it depends what you are after. You could hope to make maybe 1-3% above inflation over the longer term assuming you reinvested your returns along the way. Certain active bind fund managers could do better than that though

Good for what? What terms are you talking about? What is your objective - why are you investing?

What other investments do you have? How would Gilts and/or Bonds complement them?

Your question needs some context to get meaningful responses
  • I am no expert by any means but fwiw here is my view...

Gilts are so expensive as to pose the question are they, at the moment, providing the haven they have historically and would cash be a more sensible option at the moment?

If you're looking for a meaningful return on fixed income then you're going to be fishing in the murkier end of the corporate bond market with the danger that volatility will be similar to equities during market stress.

Aren't you interested in medium terms as well. In order to make an informed decision.
