Question about laying tiles - new build house- odd

    12 inches (the tile size they gave) is 300mm.

    I suspect that that the tiler didn't want to end up in a situation where they started off with full tiles on one wall, and ended up having to fit silly little slivers of tile at the opposite wall. In such situations, it's better to make sure that there's a decent fraction of a tile all round.

    Also allow for the walls not being perfectly square and vertical. Just because there's a whole tile at the top, doesn't mean that there will be at the bottom. Or vice-versa.
    If it sticks, force it.
    If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
