I'm looking for a laptop that will comfortably handle processing very large datasets, MOS (I'm planning to take the expert level certification), the odd youtube video, but don't anticipate using it for gaming. What specification should I be looking for and are there any particularly good deals around? My budget is around £300

Doesn't matter. Did SQL on large-ish databases in my last job using MySQL, had no problem doing it on a desktop with a 7 year old first generation Core i3 with 8GB RAM. Even the Core 2 Duo stuff we used to install it on for site installs had no problem acting as a SQL server or client for the same databases and these would be databases holding 10,000s of transactions as it was for systems installed in casinos and contained a dozen fields for each machine, details of every operation done by any of the staff, any payouts etc and some of these databases had been in place for several years.
Basically anything on the market can do SQL and play Youtube videos. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You can do that on a Raspberry Pi. Any laptop thats under 5 years old should be good enough.
If your not gaming then the video card wont matter. Onboard video will be good enough.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
