I had an email off someone saying "saw you bidded on X and didn't win, I have these for sale cheaper the item no is XYZ hope you dont mind me emailing you"
I took no offence from it and politely said I wasnt interested as it was slightly different but thanks anyway.
However I've just looked at some completed listings for items I want to list and see that there are people who didnt win - but i'd be happy with the price they offered - am I actually allowed to contact them and say "hello i have this item for sale, noticed you bidded on X and didnt win etc" or is this completely against the rules ? i would be selling through eBay - just giving the non winners of other auctions a little heads up like the person did with me.
thanks in advance

It would be considered spamming... as was the message you got.My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Well there is the official channel of "second chance offers" but I havn't ever bought from one/sold from one.
I was planning to use this when my items sold last weekend, for multiples I've got, but as my auctions fell flat on their face I couldn't!!!!
A guy did send me a message once saying he had some more for sale, while his other ones were up for auction, but I was really wary (especially since it was in the US and I hadn't dealt with that ebay for years!) so I sent him a message back saying I would see how I went in the auctions but thanks anyway, then forgot to bid!!!! (they did end at like 1.30am our time!) so I emailed him back asking if he still had the others and was he putting them up, he said he could do it out of ebay, but I was still a bit worried, so I asked him if he could do it through ebay and I would cover his fees. He turned out to be a really nice bloke!

Selling things off ebay can be a worry - there's no seller or buyer protection.
If the item *goes missing* you'll have no opportunity to raise a dispute.
I wouldn't risk it if I were you. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -

I think it's against the rules, but I admit I have done this. I always specify that if they would like to buy my item that matches the one they didn't get, that the item will be listed through all proper procedures, so the buyer will have all the usual ebay buyer protection if they take me up on the offer.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.
