Booking.com - Genius Club

Not sure whether I have received a spoof/spam/dodgy e-mail or a genuine one. From out of the blue (although I have used booking.com for hotels in the past (2 years ago) I have not recently used them) I receive this e-mail saying that 10% discounts are available, click here to activate your genius status. Being a cautious type, I have not clicked on the link. I have (yesterday) made a hotel booking (but that was direct with the hotel) and was wondering how/if that might have triggered a marketing pitch.
Anyone come across the booking.com genius club and if so, have you used it? I suppose more to the point have you received an e-mail and clicked on the link with no dire consequences.

it definitely exists - I work in hotel revenue management so see a lot of customers with this status.
I think the timing is coincidence or based on your google searching. The hotel certainly wouldnt be passing valuable direct contact details back to a commissionable channel0 -
From memory it also offers an early check-in... what it doesn't tell you is that it's not guaranteed (as we found out...) and many hotels will allow you an earlier check-in anyway if they have capacity to do so.0

Hubby and I use booking.com regularly for both business and personal travel and both have "genius" status. To qualify you need to have made five stays in a two year period.
You need to log into your account for the system to recognise/price with your 10% genius discount but yes, we use it lots.
I don't believe we received emails and needed to click a link as we've had this status for quite some time, however the genius status genuinely exists. I'd hesitate about clicking a link if you don't meet the above criteria.0
