We are going to get some more quotes from local heating engineers (Corgi) and then decide on what to do.
He said that basically we are currently wasting 50% of our gas as the pilot light is using too much to keep it ticking over and is obviously on 24/7, I can sort of believe this as it's such an old boiler but at the same time I don't believe the quote to be competitive but will know more once we have had more quotes that I will arrange soon.
I recommend checking local councils because some run heating schemes as part of "energy efficiency" I have a friend who contacted her local council who ran an local energy efficient scheme and they paid for a third of the cost and loaned her the rest on interest free credit (something to do with government money allocations) the only crteria was that she didn't have enough surplus to pay on her own and she owned her own property.
Failing that general cost of full package with up to date combi/boiler cost around £1500-£2000 inc radiators etc trade so don't be ripped off by these large companies xxx :money:0
