Can I use broadband without line rental

I have always paid 12 months line rental in advance but hardly ever use my landline.

I am with plusnet and before I telephone them I want to have some information handy.

Do I have to pay for line rental to carry on getting broadband?

I would rather have no home phone and use a mobile, there is a SIM only £5 a month package with more minutes and texts than I could ever use.

If so I could save £231 a year.

Yes you do need to have it. (unless a virgin media customer)

LR tends to be included in the price these days (by law), but you may be able to pay LR in advance

As already stated, only Virgin provide genuine 'broadband only' but you will find its not really any cheaper than VM phoneline and broadband combined, of the ISP's that use Openreach, Vodafone advertise their broadband as being 'free' from line rental, but again it's around the same price as other ISP's line and broadband price, so really, given that on the OR's network a 'line' is required to get broadband service into your home , then paying to use that 'line' is not unreasonable, however the ISP decides to show it on your bill.
Going to mobile only may be cost effective, but quite often it's not unlimited data usage , so best to consider how much bandwidth you consume before you decide to dump the 'landline', as the £5 sim will probably be something like 500Mb per month included, that's OK for sending/receiving emails and a small amount of browsing , but not much else

That is a pity.
I will definitely want to be able to use the internet on my laptop and not on my mobile phone.

Line rental pays for provision of the wiring that can carry telephone calls and/or a broadband signal. It also gives the ability to receive calls.

On top of that you can pay a monthly amount for a call package or pay for calls at a per minute rate and/or pay for a broadband package.

Where broadband services are advertised, a combined price for line rental and broadband is advertised.
