House insurance - semi occupied and building works

Sorry if this question has been answered before.
I am wondering what options are available for home insurance if you buy a property then make some cosmetic(ish) alterations before you move in?

I've had unoccupied policies in the past (and occupied ones) and i'm pretty sure both ask you if you are having building work done. I am sure the way this question is put to you that if you answered yes the policy would be unsuitable. Are there providers out there which allow works and don't sting you with a massive premium for it?

For my situation i'd be buying a local place which would be visited multiple times per week. Possibly slept in 1 or 2 nights if need be to count as occupied. I'd be wanting to renovate the bathroom before moving in. It's usable now but just one of those jobs that's a pain to do while you live there. Possibly lifting some floorboards and insulating underneath also but that could be done when 'proper' moved in.

Thanks

Yes your quite right most household and unoccupied policies don't like work being done to the property due to the increased liability risks and materials/tools hanging around on site. Anything outside the norm is often a no.
Id suggest www.selfbuildinsure.co.uk as they will cover the existing building plus new works while you are doing work to it and they wont insist you visit the property like unoccupied buildings cover would.
