I've seen a cruise starting from Tilbury to Norway for 6 days in May for £379 on the M/S Marco Polo, sounds good, has anyone done this trip or anything else similar?

Haven't done that trip but have done a fred olsen cruise from newcastle - i was one of the youngest on board (accompanying my nan) and the general cruise experience wasn't exactly my cup of tea but the scenery was amazing.0

Hi,I have done the fjords cruise in june a few years ago,it was awesome, land of the midnight sun, and all that, mind you it was very cold at times.I did it with the norwegian company,Hurtigruten, their ships are working ships and stop at every little township collecting and delivering stuff so they are not your traditional cruise ships.I have cruised on Marco Polo when she belonged to Orient Lines and she is a lovely ship,my favourite in fact so hopefully her new owners will not make too many changes. If you want to investigate the Hurtigruten voyages their web site is www.hurtigruten.co.uk you can get a free DVd with their brochure.I have cruised the inside passage in Alaska The fjords are just as impressive.

Ther are several company if you Google Norwegian Fjords, I saw it in a brochure for Grand UK Holidays for over 55s.
Can I ask megp if the North Sea crossing was rough? Was it cold on the boat or just outside?0 -
We have been on the Marco Polo when it was with Orient Lines. Found the drinks expensive, but the food was excellent.
Did a cruise to the fjords and Iceland in June 2004 and loved it. The weather wasn't great - drizzly, cloudy and chilly, but we had a great time. I would highly recommend it.0 -
We have done the Fred Olsen cruise to the fjords on their ship Braemar which is quite small and can get into the smaller fjords. It was spectacularly awesome. We went in July and the crossing was perfect and the temperature in the 80's. Entertainment not brilliant but our best cruise ever.0

Saveapenny - I think it is with this company:

who are taking over the Marco Polo for next year. They have been advertising in the press over the late summer.
violettaA chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0 -
diddydi - we also went on the braemar and one of the things i liked about it was the small size. Felt very personal unlike some of the massive cruise ships that you see where they are more like massive floating holiday resorts.
I've been across in summer and the crossing was fine but when i went across in november it was just a little bit choppy!0 -
Hi Hardpressed, the sea wasn't rough as most of the time the ship hugs the coastline and is not out in the open sea.Going through the fjords can be cold and wet though, especially in the Troll fjord which is very narrow you feel if it was a few inches narrower you would be able to touch the sides of the fjord.
The scenery is spectacular and the midnight sun is something else.

I have cruised the Norwegian Fjords many times and am going again in August. May I suggest that you cruise this area on a fairly big ship as the North Sea crossing can be quite rough, and on a smaller ship, you feel the movement much more. Havging said that, The Fjords are my favourite place, and if you happem to stop in Olden, that's my idea of a very beautiful place.0
