  • It's a 2008 plate and the car hasn't been off the road for 3 years but it has been untaxed. An engine rebuild should mean it's good for another 100,000 miles at least.

It'll have to be court once its fixed and will pay under protest and make it clear if I pay this bill it will end up in court. Thanks for your responses

2008 model meaning its the newer last generation M3? £11k is ludicrously cheap, as they start from around low £20k for one in decent condition.

I can really see this trader paying up if you win in court.

Ask trading standards for advice. The car should be fit for purpose. Engine failure caused by abuse is the only way the dealer can avoid liability so unsurprising they are claiming that. They would need to prove it if it went to court.
Don't be dissuaded by the dealers arrogant claims they would win in court.
  • I won it on auction anticipating it would sell for more, but yes it was cheap and I know what kind of person I'm dealing with so chances are it'll break after I've paid to get it fixed too as well as getting "5 or 10 quid a week back" (his words) in court.

Do we need to set up a new sub-forum especially for M3 issues ?
  • I have asked as theyve basically said he's got you by the balls. Either way it'll cost me thousands and trading standards can't do anything as he hasn't done anything criminal (that they can see)
