Oil Tank Location

I've already had an Oftec engineer out to quote on replacing my steel oil tank but I'm wondering if his interpretation of the rules are quite correct.

My tank is next to a garden boundary wall, 150mm away, and I plan to replace it with an identical tank so I can satisfy the oftec requirement of :

A minimum separation distance of 100mm is required between the tank and fire rated barrier

However, he is saying it needs to be 300mm as they also require a base that is :

• Large enough to extend 300mm beyond all sides of the tank.

The rules contradict each other, can I get away with being 150mm away and but the base up to the wall?

See here. The 300mm is to stop plants growing on to oil tank. That is 300mm to any plant. If you have a wall then I assume you can't have a plant so all you need is 150mm. I would point the reason out to your oftec guy and see what he says. You could also contact Building regs as it is down to them at the end of the day. They are the law, not oftec.
