Nail in Tyre :(
This morning I discovered that I have a nail in the nearside rear tyre of my Disco. It's not in or near the sidewall so I think it can be repaired. I'm gathering a few quotes and so far have had one reply quoting me £49 which seems a bit steep. What do you think? I suppose I could just put the spare tyre on for now.
The MOT last month noted that there is tyre wearing on the nearside front tyre so I am wondering if I might be looking at replacing tyres soon anyway in which case I would just replace rather than repair the other tyre.

£49 for a puncture repair? That's almost the cost of a budget tyre!
Your local independent tyre place should be heck of a lot cheaper than that. Avoid main dealer and large tyre & exhaust outlets would be my adviceYou can have results or excuses, but not both.Challenge - be 14 Stone BY XMAS!

My thoughts exactly!Your local independent tyre place should be heck of a lot cheaper than that. Avoid main dealer and large tyre & exhaust outlets would be my advice
This was a local independent.
I think I shall give the garage who I use for servicing and MOT'ing my Disco a call. Even if they don't repair tyres they might be able to recommend someone who does....and does for less than £49.0 -
Plenty of little places around me who'll do a repair for a tenner if they're quiet. Have a look or ask around locally.0

Yeah, I'd be thinking £10-£15 too.
I have an alloy wheel specialist near me who does all my tyre work. They know how to treat alloys so they don't get damaged and they're cheap. You can have results or excuses, but not both.Challenge - be 14 Stone BY XMAS!

I'm pretty sure I only paid a tenner last time I had a nail puncture repaired, and although it was a few years ago I can't see that costs have risen much in that time so £15 max.0

I recently had the same - nail in tyre and took my Qashqai to the Nissan Dealer round the corner who charged £150

The one I use charge
£15 if you pay by card/want a receipt
£10 cash if you don't want a receipt
£5 cash if the boss is not in.0 -

Just buy and use one those types of repair kits. If you're going to replace the tyres soon anyway then a) this'll give you an instant repair, and b) will give you additional repair strings should you get further punctures.
I used the above kit on my previous car - I got a puncture two weeks after getting the car. The same tyre was removed about 3 years/40k miles later and didn't lose any pressure at all. (At least no different to any other non-punctured tyre).0 -
Had two punctures repairs recently, £5 each for cash at a local independent tyre place..
Tried National Tyres said they could not be repaired because the nail / screw had not in in at 90 deg to the tread. :rotfl: Now while some might go in that direction I doubt that may do.0 -
Thanks everyone. I'll get some more quotes because £10 to £15 is more in line with what I was expecting. I will also check out that tyre repair kit because it might come in handy if I'm out and about in the back of beyond.0
