O/S Daily Friday 9th February 2018

This is an !!!8220;over the garden fence!!!8221; type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It!!!8217;s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we!!!8217;re going to do today or what we!!!8217;ve achieved already. Everyone!!!8217;s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn!!!8217;t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don!!!8217;t post large pictures, or clip art !!!8211; links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don!!!8217;t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, milder but wet underfoot and still raining, blustery too.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he'll come with me to do the food shopping, then walk from there to the gym.

Dinner last night was a lovely mixed grill type dinner, I visited the butcher after the disaster with the pork chops bought elsewhere and will try to use the butcher as much as possible. I bought 1 x big pack of butcher's sausages, 1 x pack of butchers lincolnshire sausages, a huge bag of liver, and 2 x large pieces of rump steak which the butcher kindly cut in halves to make 4 small steaks, although they were very thick pieces, I served the steak, 2 x sausages, some liver in gravy to those that wanted some, a slice of bacon, chips and peas - went down very well - clean plates all round. The unused sausages were bagged up and are now in the freezer along with the unused liver, so a good stock for another meal. I have been using bits out of the freezer so it's got some pockets of space. Tonight's dinner I'm not sure what we'll be having, but I'll sort that whilst shopping.

Yesterday I got practically nothing done at home due to not being here most of the day - although I did get a couple of loads of washing done, and another is whirling round in the machine at the moment, the dirty wash basket only now has 4 items in it - so not enough to do a wash, but the beds need stripping and the towels need washing so a few more loads will be needed today. I'll do what ironing needs doing once I get back from shopping, then run the hoover round, there's no point doing a big clean as I don't know how much mess the heating engineer is going to make tomorrow, not too much I hope.

The visits from the health teams went well yesterday, and at last think we have made some progress with one of mum's other health issues, which has not been addressed but is now very much on the agenda and we're hoping that she sticks to her word that she will be willing to go for a formal assessment to get a proper diagnosis. This will be her main health issue in the future, as her physical mobility is very good, she's almost back to the same level of fitness as she was before the stroke, but her mental/memory health has deteriorated massively and some days she's very muddled and confused. Also she has practically no short term memory at all. But everything is in hand and moving forward albeit slowly, it will be long process I'm sure.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone

I hope that you are feeling a bit better this morning nannywindow.

One of the advantages of living alone is getting all of the bed to myself, and not having to live with snoring/restless sleepers or someone else hogging most of the bed! I feel for those of you who are being kept awake at night.

I was going through my recently updated freezer and cupboard inventories yesterday, and realised that if I stretched out what I have I could probably live on what I have in for the best part of a year. I would just need to buy fresh fruit/veg/salad, milk and bread. So I’m going to join the eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge thread and sort this out. I hate the thought of so much money tied up.

I don’t usually menu plan but am going to do a plan for a week this morning and then buy any fresh veg I need for the week. If I do it early enough I may be able to get to the supermarket and back before it gets too busy.

As it is half term there are a few free things going on in the town next week so I want to call into the library while I’m out and get a list of events. There may be some things on there that I’m interested in going to.

Have a good day whatever you are doing.
  • Good morning, my OH and DS are on their way to Manchester airport, DS flies out at 10. So far I have found only one thing that he had intended to take and left behind. Hopefully the motorways should not be too bad, at least at the beginning of the journey. OH should be back around midday. They have both been fed bacon butties.

I have started the Friday Tidy and will continue though can't really run the vacuum cleaner at this hour. The washing machine is on though, with the first of several loads. I can only do so much, it is pretty wet so things will need to dry indoors.

It is going to be a quiet house for the next few weeks and I'll enjoy that but will miss him, I might not miss the regular yell of "mum, where's my ...." though.

I hope everyone has a good day

Your new friend sounds just the ticket dumpling, hope he settles in well.

Cold and wet here of course, the day I need to walk to the station! I'm going to DS2s in The Hague straight from work, not heard from him but assume he is back from his travels. DD arrived in Cambodia yesterday, seems to be the week for travelling in our family.

House all ship shape, bins emptied and everything switched off, see you Tuesday! Take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The forecast says it should be sleeting here then turning to light snow - it's doing neither thank goodness! Yet!

Just enjoying a 2nd coffee in peace before wakening the 3 girls. I wish I could instill a bit of speed into the eldest (13) she messes about as if any time will do! Good news last night - no minding to be done over half term as DD has taken her working days off! Another free week! I love them all to bits but it's nice to have a week to ourselves sometime!

As it's, yet again, the end of the week the Friday Tidy beckons, once the girls are safely installed in school. Next week I intend tackling the bedroom the 2 youngest share. It's like Toys R Us in there and I am hoping to prune a lot of the "stuff". They have outgrown a lot of the books, games, toys etc so time to be ruthless!

The living from the freezer is catching and I am determined to stick with it this time. HM soup and a bagel out defrosting for lunch and some chicken breasts thawing. waiting to be transformed into something for dinner. Awaiting inspiration on that!

Have a good day all and, as always, ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. The bugs seem to be still doing the rounds among a lot of people. We need warm sun! Take care all xx

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I'm off to collect some dgd's soon, I have to bring them back to the boat as we have to turn it around so the engineer can work on the solar panels.
Then I need to go to the bank, take CHS to work and then take the dgd's home and stay with them until mum gets home.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning (((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Shopping yesterday wore me out after a bad night on Wednesday, I was glad to get to bed after spending most of the evening dozing on the settee.

I saw G yesterday afternoon, he is coming this morning to put the slabs back down at the side of the shed. I am taking our neighbour B down to the Drs for a blood test in a short while. If she goes on the bus before 9.30 she has to pay £1.80 to travel a mile.

No plans for the day except to do the mac and cheese we should have had last night.

    Morning all,

Before we had the King size bed Grumps restless legs were such a problem i suggested single beds but a King sized bed and a bar of soap was a compromise that worked.
    1z6gmc0.jpg
Now i just have to find a solution to him overheating in bed. I'm in bed frozen stiff and he's chucking the duvet off him and opening the window when theres snow and ice outside.

Not much to do today but i am going to tackle the black grouting in between the bathroom floor tiles. I really do wish i'd chose a different colour but black tiles and black grouting seemed the obvious choice at the time.

Grump will be home tonight. I need him to alter the timer on the radiators this weekend. I need them to come on earlier and go off later. I cant even see the temperature settings on the boiler let alone how to work them out. On the plus side i managed to bluetooth Youtube from my phone to the telly last night. I'm rather proud of that.

Dumpling how are you coping with getting Becky to school?

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

    Morning everyone,

Wet here too but not so cold which is something.

Need to change the bed and the towels today so that's the main job, if it clears up weather wise later I will get Lulu out and about, she was a good girl in the school yesterday apart from one tiny spook over a pigeon flying up from the hedge!
Apart from that no major plans, tea is pork saltimboca with pea mash, one of the £1 meals from my M Barclay book, there may well be wine involved as well :D

Have a good day folks, enjoy your Friday x
