Burst water meter

Hi,

I had a water leak in September, the water company have passed the details through to their claim management company who are, to be honest, not managing the claim.

Damage was caused by the water meter to internal pipework blowing, and the ensuing water influx has damaged kitchen floor, edging and underlay, plinths, cabinets, doors, and infill panels.

The claims management company have requested prices for the repair work which has been supplied. They are then trying to reduce the claim for 'wear and tear' and only paying for the doors damaged, not the whole set so they match.

Would I still be able to claim using my insurers (they were notified at the time as I was unsure who would be best to deal) so the kitchen is restored to state it was in before the leak? As the claims management company have made an offer, they are not budging - the offer is not enough to replace the damaged items and pay for the work to be done so I will be out of pocket for something which is not my fault and should be covered under the water companies insurance?

Thanks for reading

If you pursue a third party then they are only responsible for the indemnity value of the item (which is what they are offering), not the replacement cost or to match items.

If you claim on your own policy then it will probably be a replacement value policy, although matching items may still be in question.
