Advice regarding warranty

Please help... we had to return a Grundfos water pump as the float switch had become temperamental and was causing flooding in our cellar. The supplier (we bought the pump from) arranged a free return as the pump was within the 2-year warranty period.
We have since been told that Grundfos haven't found a fault with the pump and that we will be charged £120 for this investigation as they can't classify it as a warranty claim.
The return process didn't mention any charges whatsoever. No mention of this charge anywhere on the suppliers website. The suppliers website provides no information about the warranty or such charges.
Can you please advice our options given the pump isn't worth the investigation charge and we weren't informed of this fee upfront. The pump will still be temptemental when it is returned to us. Does anyone know if it is standard for a company to charge for investigation for a product under warranty? Thank you for any help.
